Nelson, New Zealand: a café and restaurant on the water, with a liquor licence, is looking for a Duty Manager. Up to 200 guests can be seated, the doors open every day, and the year moves from a busy summer to a quieter winter. The owners put weight on good food, real hospitality and simple systems that let great service happen again and again.
On each rostered shift you would take the lead on the floor, answering for the guest experience, the service, the team on duty and the safe and lawful way the venue operates, as the Duty Manager on licence. Expect permanent work of at least 30 hours a week, with weekends and public holidays included.
You should already have the right to work in New Zealand. The business is an accredited employer under the AEWV scheme and may be able to sponsor a work visa for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
- Take the lead on the floor during your shifts, setting the tempo and standards for everyone on duty
- Carry the Duty Manager's licence responsibilities, covering host responsibility and obligations under alcohol sale and supply law
- Open each shift with a team briefing, then coach and back up staff while service runs
- Keep every team member working to the venue's systems, checklists and procedures
- Take care of cash-up, opening, closing and handovers accurately, and deal calmly with guest feedback, passing larger issues to the Restaurant Manager
Requirements & Eligibility
- Duty Manager Certificate (Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012), or the ability to obtain one promptly
- National Certificate in Food & Beverage Service (Level 3) or equivalent, or working towards it
- Earlier experience supervising or leading shifts in hospitality
- Solid knowledge of wine, beverage and food service
- Comfortable reading rosters and meeting wage cost expectations for a shift; proficient with venue systems such as IdealPOS, NowBookIt, Operandio, Slack and Loaded
- The right to work in New Zealand
