Senior CNC Machinist Setter

Visa sponsorship

Manufacturing · Dunedin, New Zealand · Full-Time · $38 - $45/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

A fast-growing precision manufacturing business in Dunedin is hiring experienced Senior CNC Machinist Setters for permanent full-time positions on day shift and night shift. About 30 people work there, producing small runs of many different parts for customers in fields like medical and aerospace, where quality, repeatability and fine detail decide everything.

Expect mill-turn, Swiss-type and multi-axis CNC work on technically challenging parts with complex geometries and tight tolerances. The business holds Accredited Employer status, and for exceptional candidates whose skills, experience and attributes closely line up with its needs, sponsorship through potential immigration support is available.

Kenyan machinists thinking about this move should get a CV ready that lists the machine types you have run, the tolerances you have held and any CMM or CAM exposure. Build your CV with Build AI CV and keep it short and specific.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate demanding CNC jobs safely and to specification, running several machines and juggling priorities
  • Be accountable for how every part turns out against the drawing, its tolerances and what the customer expects
  • Work from engineering drawings, process sheets and job instructions
  • Pick the tooling, workholding, fixtures and machine settings each job calls for
  • Prove out first-off pieces and inspect during production with suitable gauges and instruments
  • Watch machine output and the flow of work so small problems are solved before they hold up production
  • Pass programming or process problems to the right person when needed, knowing how offsets, tooling and parameters change quality and output
  • Deburr and finish components until they are ready to go to the customer
  • Guide newer colleagues and work with programmers, quality staff and production leaders on delivery dates
  • Help raise machining standards through continuous improvement

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Usually 10+ years as a CNC Machinist, with complex setups and tight-tolerance work in that time

  • Confident reading engineering drawings
  • Deep knowledge of machining methods, tooling, workholding and cutting strategies
  • Skilled with calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges and similar precision measuring tools
  • Has deburred and finished precision parts
  • Advantageous: CMM experience (Micro-Vu and/or Hexagon)
  • Advantageous: some CNC programming or CAM exposure, such as TopSolid
  • Self-motivated and independent but a good team player; solid problem-solving and a methodical approach to fault-finding
