Carpet Layer

Visa sponsorship

Trade · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored

Auckland has a family-run flooring company, linked to a national flooring network, that is after a skilled carpet layer ready to stay. It treats customers and staff well, and the quality of its workmanship is what it trades on. As an Accredited Employer, it is able to sponsor migrant workers.

A normal day starts at one base and moves between homes and commercial sites, doing installs for the company and its sister store. Hours are Monday to Friday, plus a couple of Saturdays each month. Part of the job is teaching: an apprentice works in the crew, and the new layer will pass on their skills.

A carpet layer's CV should name the types of carpet you have fitted, the jobs you have handled alone and any tickets you hold. If you are applying from Nairobi, use Build AI CV to set out your flooring CV before you apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fit carpet in homes and commercial premises, taking each job from bare floor to a neat result
  • Prepare floors and lift old carpet, then install to industry and manufacturer standards
  • Manage your own jobs and stay courteous and professional with customers in their homes
  • Coach and support the apprentice while on the tools
  • Cover installs for both the main store and the sister store

Requirements & Eligibility

  • At least 3 years of laying carpet
  • Strong experience with textured and wool carpets
  • Confidence with floor prep, uplift and installing to industry and manufacturer standards
  • Pride in your work and a high standard of finish
  • Reliability and organisation, so you can run your own jobs
  • Courtesy and professionalism with customers in their homes
  • A willingness to mentor and support an apprentice, and availability for a couple of Saturdays a month
  • Full NZ driver licence
