Carpet & Flooring Installer

Visa sponsorship

Trade · Christchurch, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25 - $38/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

A growing Christchurch flooring company is hiring at every level: experienced carpet and floor-covering installers, senior hands who can run a job, and keen newcomers. Junior installers, current apprentices and people about to start an apprenticeship may apply, and several strong candidates may be appointed. Work covers homes and light commercial sites in and around the city.

Roles are permanent and full-time: at least 37.5 hours a week, typically 40–42, mostly Monday to Friday with the odd extra stretch. Senior installers own a job from arrival on site to handover and guide a second installer or small crew; trainees learn alongside experienced staff on tasks matched to their ability. AEWV applicants are welcome, including people who need the employer's help (sponsorship) to apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa, and employment depends on obtaining the right New Zealand work rights.

A flooring CV should list the materials you install, whether you have led jobs, and trade training such as a NITA trade test certificate. Build AI CV can set that out for a tradesperson in Nairobi.

  • Handles flooring materials safely and copes with the physical side of the job.
  • Senior installers hold a full driver licence; juniors and trainees should preferably have a licence, and dependable transport to the agreed meeting point is essential.
  • Senior roles need strong carpet installation skills, the ability to run jobs without supervision and the confidence to organise and back up another installer or a small crew.
  • Sheet vinyl and vinyl plank installation experience is highly valued.
  • Previous flooring experience is not required for trainees, but reliability, willingness to learn, practical interest and a good attitude are essential.
